Sick and tired of hearing that old mantra, “Sex sells?” Well folks, get used to hearing it because with today’s latest news, we are certain it’s not going anywhere.
To all of you wanna-be porn entrepreneurs, put your wallets back in your Armani Exchange Double-Breasted coat pocket. The highly anticipated and sought after domain name Sex.com has been sold for $13 million. Wouldn’t you agree that sex most certainly sells (say that three times fast)?!
What concerns us most is not the fact that the domain name sold for an excruciatingly exorbitant amount of money, but where that money is actually going. Just six months ago, Sex.com made headlines when PETA published a letter asking that the now-bankrupt Escom, LLC owner graciously donate the domain (then valued at $18 million) to the organization so that they could use it as a tool in its recent “vegetarians are sexy” ad campaign depicting half-naked supermodels who are surrounded by strategically placed furry animals. Being the owner of a then-bankrupt company, sitting on a lucrative domain name, I bet you could come up with his first thought....RRIIIIIIGGGGHHHHHHTTTTT...donate.
Eh, it was a good thought but, if sex sells, then money talks. Clover Holdings Ltd. secured the deal and now owns the domain, sex.com. Whether they decide to turn it over to a racy philanthropic organization or just sit on it until a higher offer comes along, only time will tell. Until then, we’ll have to wait and see what Clover decides to do with the domain-aside from the obvious. Have YOU helped save the world today?
